  Bury to Bremen
My 1000 mile sponsored walk through England, Belgium, Holland, and Germany, following the route my father took with the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) during WW2, which
raised £ 9,188.42 and € 1,808.38 for the Myelin Project, The Accelerated Cure Project, Professor Compston at Cambridge University, and Bury MS Society.

Some other tried and tested fundraising ideas:

  • Cook Off:
Ask for donations of food and wine from local businesses, and ask your local restaurateur to cook up a fundraiser for you in his restaurant on a quiet night of the week.
  • Car Boot:
Guaranteed money spinner. Clear out and sell those items that you just don't need anymore.
  • Coin Collection:
Encourage your colleagues to bring in spare coins and start a coin collection in your office.
  • Pool Night:
If you are into pool, organise a "Killer Night". Suggest a donation of a couple of quid to enter, provide some prizes, and by the end of the night you'll have raised a good amount.
  • Quiz Night:
Organise a quiz down your local pub. It's easy - provide prizes for the winners which local businesses are usually more than happy to contribute, and raise money by charging an entry fee.
Walk One Mile and Raise £10 For Research

During my last sponsored walk, from Bury to Bremen, you helped raise £ 9,188.42 and € 1,808.38 for MS research; that's an inspirational £10 a mile. Thank you again. Your kindness, good wishes, and support stayed with me all the way to Bremen and back.

During my next sponsored walk I will be passing through thousands of towns and villages throughout England. If just one person from each town and village could walk ONE MILE and raise £10, the total raised throughout the country would be a tremendous boost for MS research.

If you could walk one mile with me to raise £10 for MS research, then click here to search for your town and see what day I will be walking through.

The Walk To Work Challenge:

Could you take part in a "Walk to Work Week" on behalf of The Myelin Project, or the Accelerated Cure Project, or both? Please read on.

What's the challenge?

The challenge for all corporations and small businesses is to consider The Walk To Work Challenge for Multiple Sclerosis Researcha walk to work week. All that is asked is that instead of driving to work or taking public transport, you consider my fight for my wife and those around the world, and walk to work for one week or even just one day. We ask that the money you save by walking be deposited in a collection bucket that we will provide. Every little bit counts, a penny or a pound!

Just click here to send an e-mail to let us know you would like to take part, and we will arrange to deliver the fund-raising kit to your place of business.
It's that simple!

Walking as a form of transport is available to many staff but is particularly relevant to those living within three miles of the workplace. Walking on a regular basis can improve fitness levels and is probably one of the most reliable forms of transport in terms of the journey time - once you've walked the distance once, you know with some confidence that this is the time it will always take. It's also completely free and there is no requirement for any kind of equipment. Walking promotes a good company image of civic responsibility, can be a very social activity and, of course, reduces car-parking pressure.
